The programming isn't exactly intuitive, but once you figure it out, it's easy to use. I am not sure how much the larger portions are.

We tested them out and it was too much to adjust for our cat, but I think would work well for medium or large sized dogs.

The lid is difficult to open, but I see this as a bonus, especially for owners of smart pets who would otherwise just pop the lid and eat all their food whenever they wanted. The negatives: The reviews saying this unit comes unplugged easily are spot on.

REALLY heavy plug adapter, and it's badly designed so it slides out of an outlet at a light tap. Since this is a USB type adapter, though, it's easy to replace the plug with a type that won't come unplugged. Would be nice if they would include a better one, though.

As I mentioned, the controls aren't intuitive, but once you figure them out, the unit works great. Now our kitty only hollers at us when she wants attention or to play.

She sits patiently by the dispenser minutes before it serves her breakfast or dinner, and eats happily without bothering us. Overall, I would absolutely buy this again. I think it has really good options for adjusting portion size, once you figure out how to use it, and lets us go away overnight or even over a weekend without having to ask a friend to come feed our cat.

It's great to know she'll be fed on time and will only miss us for our companionship. More Hide. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, there was an error.

Verified Purchase. I ordered this for my 7 year old Pitbull Dalmatian mix who is often home alone during the day.

I wanted to add an extra feeding to her routine, so I ordered this automatic feeder. She loves it! Surprisingly, it works really well with her food Purina One which has both dry kibble and oddly shaped softer pieces. It can dispense up to four feedings per day and runs on a time schedule.

I can change feed times or turn them off completely with a couple button presses. Highly recommend this product to anyone with dogs or cats who spend some time alone at home! One person found this helpful. This feeder works well, but we had a misstep in the beginning -- I thought that typical cat kibble would be classified as "small" because it's smaller than typical dog kibble from my experience.

So, when I received the machine, we swapped out the portioning wheel for the one for small kibble. The food dispensed, but unevenly and in much smaller portions than intended. I put the bigger wheel back in, and it now works fine. More precise specifications for what sizes of kibble work with each wheel would have been helpful.

My one complaint about this machine now that I have it working properly is that you can't set different feedings to be different sizes. I measured how much food gets dispensed for different numbers of portions, and five portions per day are just about right for my cat, but there's no way to do that with 2 feedings per day.

I would like to give her 3 portions in the morning and 2 at night, but that's not possible. So, I have it set up for 2 portions at each of two meals, and I have to use the "manual" button to give her an extra portion at some point during the day.

This is fine when we're home, but when we go away for a few days, we have to either under- or over-feed her, depending on whether we set the two feedings at 2 or 3 portions each. I have had issues with other automatic feeders with my cat being able to stick her paw up the feeders and get extra food.

This automatic feeder is working out great! First of all, there is no way for the cat to knock it over or learn how to open the lid of the food compartment. The lid locks and you have to press a button on the side while pulling on the lid to open it. The second design plus is that there is absolutely no way a cat could stick their paw up the food slot and turn the rotor to get more food.

The slot is just too narrow. Other design features I really like are the battery back up, the four mealtime settings, and the wide variety of portion sizes. There are some things to note, however.
