Joel W. Hughes, Ph. Fresco, Ph. Their two-year study involved 56 adults in Northeast Ohio. Study participants who practiced mindfulness-based stress reduction had significant decreases in blood pressure measurements compared with participants who received another therapy, progressive muscle relaxation.

One question left unanswered by the study, its authors said, is whether meditation can help individuals whose hypertension has crossed into the range commonly treated by medication or whether a combination of meditation and medication will work better than either treatment alone.

The mindfulness-based participants in the study used body scan exercises, sitting meditation and yoga. They practiced MBSR for eight weeks, attending sessions led by a skilled practitioner two and a half hours a week and practicing up to an hour a day on their own.

The use of MBSR was only slightly less effective than blood pressure medication, said Hughes. The reasons for seeking alternatives to medication can include a desire to avoid side effects.

Adherence to medication for hypertension is often poor, Hughes noted, and some patients do not improve their blood pressure levels by taking pills. Fresco likened the practice of MBSR to going to a gym for fitness. The goal is to reduce stress and strengthen the resolve to change behavior patterns.

This was the first scientific study in the U. to document that MBSR, an increasing popular practice, can have an effect on high blood pressure, he said.

Follow us. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common health problem that can lead to serious complications if left untreated.

But did you know that there are ways to lower blood pressure through simple lifestyle changes? One of the most effective methods is meditation. This blog post will discuss how meditation can help lower blood pressure and improve your overall health. High blood pressure is a medical condition that occurs when the force of blood against vessel walls is too high.

This can damage vessels and lead to a number of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. The good news is that lifestyle changes like mediation can help control high blood pressure.

Whether you need to take other steps, such as medication or diet modifications, should be discussed with your family doctor.

Meditation has been shown to be an effective way to lower blood pressure. When you meditate, you focus your attention and clear your mind of distractions.

This allows your body to relax, which can in turn help to lower your blood pressure. In addition, meditation can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. All of these factors can contribute to high blood pressure.

Meditating regularly can help keep your blood pressure under control and reduce your risk of developing hypertension. Meditation has been shown to provide a number of health benefits, both mental and physical.

In fact, it is one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve your overall well-being.

Meditation aims to focus your attention and find a point of stillness, whether in silence or movement. Many great apps and websites offer guided meditations for beginners.

Once you get more comfortable with the practice, you can experiment with different ways of meditating. Some people prefer to sit or lie down, while others prefer to walk or do gentle stretching. The key is to find a position that feels comfortable for you and that you can maintain for a period of time.

Just gently bring your attention back to your breath and allow yourself to drift off again. With regular practice, you can help keep your blood pressure under control and enjoy all the other benefits that meditation offers. So why not give it a try today?
