This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions: Used for Why 2 Stars. Studies have shown that intraocular pressure may be lowered by directly applying a sterile fluid extract of forskolin, a constituent of the Ayurvedic herb Coleus forskohlii.

Clinical trials suggest coleus may help regulate body weight and improve metabolic health. Coleus forskohlii is an Ayurvedic medicinal plant used historically to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, eczema, digestive colic, respiratory ailments, painful urination, insomnia, and seizures, as well as overweight and obesity.

Laboratory research suggests forskolin, an active compound from coleus, may reduce excessive inflammatory signaling by fat cells. In a week placebo-controlled trial that included 23 mildly overweight women, those receiving a standardized coleus extract, at a dose of mg twice daily, lost 0.

A similar trial that included 30 women with overweight and obesity being treated with a reduced-calorie diet found taking coleus resulted in the same weight loss as placebo; however, coleus had greater positive impacts on insulin levels and insulin resistance, suggesting it may improve metabolic health generally.

One trial found that a constituent of coleus, called forskolin, when inhaled, could decrease lung spasms in asthmatics. Coleus contains forskolin, a substance that may help dilate blood vessels and improve the forcefulness with which the heart pumps blood.

A small amount of preliminary evidence suggests Coleus forskohlii and its active ingredient forskohlin may have blood pressure-lowering effects. Coleus forskohlii and its active constituent forskolin have been found to relax blood vessel walls and lower blood pressure in laboratory and animal studies.

A pilot trial evaluated the effect of two preparations of in subjects with high blood pressure and found 31 of the 41 participants who completed the trial Forskolin was also found to lower blood pressure and increase cardiac output in an uncontrolled preliminary trial with 12 subjects suffering from cardiomyopathy.

Promoting enzyme activity and stimulating cAMP production may be helpful in the seemingly unwinnable battle of the bulge. Animal and in vitro studies also support a potential role for coleus forskohlii in enhancing lipolysis and reducing body weight and fat accumulation.

Fortunately human studies also support a modest effect of forskolin for fat loss. And considering how mightily some people struggle to reduce their body fat modest effects are better than nothing!

A separate study concluded that forskolin may not be a home run for fat loss but it could be helpful for preventing fat gain and it does so in the absence of any observed adverse effects on hematological profile. They wanted to release a medicine directly where new bone needed to grow, and do it in a short period of time. So they built a scaffold out of a biodegradable polymer to guide the growth of the new bone.

They impregnated the scaffold with forskolin, a small molecule that encourages the same bone growth response as rhBMPs do. And guessing that some of the undesirable effects from rhBMPs were related to longterm use, they engineered the scaffold to release the forskolin almost entirely within a 24 hour period.

They then tested two forskolin-impregnated scaffolds one high dose, one low dose against a scaffold impregnated with rhBMP, and a control scaffold that had no bone growth factor added.
