There are so many reasons to grow your own food at home: 💰 Saves you money at the grocery store 🍴 Healthier than conventionally grown food 🔑 increases your overall food security 🫙 Gives you an abundance to preserve and share But perhaps the number one reason is because it just tastes better!

But that also means changing our relationship with food and learning to appreciate the work that goes into producing it and the natural seasonality of organically grown fruits and vegetables. It also means learning to preserve it so you can make the most of it and enjoy homegrown food all year long.

Been up since 3am, contemplating life, the future and the past, the order of things… There is a rumbling right now, not just in North America, but around the world.

We can even plant a fall succession crop after our garlic if we want so it really makes great use of garden space all year round. We now grow enough to eat all year and then some! A while back I compiled a comprehensive guide to growing, harvesting and using garlic both as an edible and medicinal crop.

I have a newborn and a young daughter. As for the sugar scrub, this separation is totally normal.

I made some of this scrub with avocado oil and peppermint essential oil just as the recipe instructs. It separates and in just a few seconds there is oil standing on the top. I am very disappointed. Would you have a suggestion to remedy this?

I would make this closer to Christmas. I do find that as the oil absorbs into the sugar, it can begin to dry out a bit so I would just keep the ingredients on hand and mix it up a week or 2 before. It only takes a couple minutes to mix it if you have everything else ready.

You can even get your jars ready now with the labels and everything. Just quickly put a peppermint sugar scrub together for first time. Wow, super easy. In the bit left for me I have also added tea tree oil and rosemary to replicate a commercially produced scrub I used to use.

Tried a bit and super impressed, hands very clean, feel soft and smell wonderful. Your email address will not be published. Submit Comment. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.

People are HUNGRY for tried and tested advice on homesteading and self-reliant living. People are ready to take matters into their own hands by growing their own food, preparing their own meals, becoming producers instead of merely consumers and taking control of their health, freedom, security and lives.

Getting to meet and brainstorm with some of the team in person and tour the printing facilities over the last few days has opened up a whole new world of possibilities, not just for me, but for everyone who considers themselves part of the modern homesteading movement.

We are growing faster than I could have ever imagined. Jan 7. I grew up in Vancouver and had pretty much zero experience homesteading before my husband, Ryan and I decided we wanted to escape the rat race, become less dependent on the modern industrial food system and all modern industrialized systems , and dove head first into this lifestyle around a decade ago.

We packed up and moved to Vancouver Island where we live now, started our first garden, and the rest is pretty much history. We all know for a fact now that our food system, healthcare system, financial system, transportation system and so much more are all really just a house of cards built on shaky ground.

I don't leave the scrub on my skin for an extended period of time; just a minute or so to get the dead skin cells off and then rinse 3.

The coloring seems to bond with the sugar and only a bit of oil residue is left behind which softens skin. I hope this helps! Hi, just a quick question. How coarse should the sugar be? I'm used to salt scrub but not sugar scrub. Would salt dissolve in the oil solution?

Hey everyone, im. having a christmas in july bridal shower so I was going to make these sugar scrubs for favors. How far in advance is it ok to make and will it last some time or get funky? I need an expert on this house to unravel my problem. Maybe that is you! Having a look ahead to look you. Hi there! Do you use Twitter? I'd like to follow you if that would be ok.

I'm definitely enjoying your blog and look forward to new posts. Hello, I would love to make this for gifts, any idea on how long they will keep? It would be nice to get a jump on Christmas gifts now I was wondering what size and brand of the labels you used to print your little tags.

I love this idea! I am planning on getting together with some of my friends to make these 🙂. And i'm satisfied reading your article. But wanna commentary on some common things, The website style is great, the articles is actually excellent : D.

Excellent task, cheers. What is a sugar scrub used for? Can anyone give some insight as to this please? I know this seems a little silly A sugar scrub is used in the bath or shower to exfoliate. You rub it on your body and then rinse it off.

I made something similar to this, but I have a silly question. I have never used mason jars before. Do I have to do something to make the 2 lids into one?

Or do I just leave it as 2? I love this idea, I just ordered plastic jars with an attached wooden spoon off of ebay. My question is, how long will these last? I would like to make about 3 jars of different flavors for one person.

I imagine they would last a long time beings its made with salt. Just want to make sure. Oooh looks so cute and yummy smelling! Could I just use plain old peppermint extract, or does it have to be peppermint oil?

I used this recipe and tripled it. Used lavender essential oil have more to do tomorrow; peppermint and grapefruit and it came out terrific! I added more coconut oil, as apparently in its solid form is harder to measure, but Im doing them for Christmas gifts, along with a body butter and bath salt.

Will definitely use this recipe again! I loved this idea! If you're making as gifts, I filled a dozen half-pint jars with this recipe x5. I added in an extra half cup of coconut oil to the entire thing. It turned out perfectly, thank you! My sister made this recipe for me and our baby sister for Christmas.

It was very cute and a great sugar scrub! It did not turn my hands any color. If it turned your hands red or pink, you used too much food coloring! Love it! Im worried that the Red food coloring is going to turn my hands red? Has anyone had this problem?

No, it has not made my hands red. It's just a couple drops for the whole batch, then you use the scrub and rinse off 🙂. I just bought all the ingredients to make this for my kids' teachers. My question is, if I follow the recipe X5, how much peppermint oil am I using?

I don't want it too strong that it burns the skin! The recipe says a "few" drops, is it safe for me to put, say, 12 drops in? I would start with drops if making a big batch and then test on skin.

You can always add more, you just want enough for the scent to come through 🙂. Should you use fractionated coconut oil for this recipe? This is the kind that stays in liquid form. Thinking if you use regular coconut oil it will firm up and get solidified.

i have made one, but, not for myself.. This did not work for me. It got hard. Is this because I used compressed coconut oil, or do I need to add more oil. Please advise. If some one desires to be updated with most up-to-date technologies afterward he must be go to see this site and be up to date daily.

What's up to every body, it's my first pay a visit of this weblog; this blog includes remarkable and actually excellent data in support of visitors. I just made this for Christmas gifts and gave out a few at my Meditation group this afternoon.

Everyone loved them, I will be making more! I changed a few things, I put the label on top, on the lid, used red and white curling ribbon for the bow, and instead of coloring some of it pink with food coloring I had an epiphany at Central Market last night when I saw a bulk bin of finely crushed peppermint candy.

I mixed that into the white "dough" and put a little extra on top of the mixture in the jar. Very Cute and very easy Thanks for such a lovely idea!!! Your email address will not be published. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.
